Indian Association Bonn

Indian Association Bonn (IAB), is a non-profit organisation based in Bonn. This Association is dedicated to Indian cultural activities and disseminating traditional Indian values. Bonn and its suburbs have around 5000 residents of Indian origin, primarily occupied in hi-tech, engineering, medical, IT, UN diplomats and business professionals with multinational companies such as Deutsche Telekom and DHL. The desire to have an Indian Association in Bonn took birth in the late 1980’s and was brought into fruition in April 2006. IAB was registered officially in 2010.

The main objective of this association is to hold the Indian Community together to their cultural roots and to guide the new generation as they adapt and navigate a way of life that permits integration with the local culture while having a basis in Indian values.  IAB hosts a variety cultural events, thus enabling a sharing Indian culture with the Bonners in the spirit of mutual respect and togetherness.

As the Indian population is growing, the role that IAB fulfils in the Bonn area will continue to be of great importance. One day, our children will be proud of this association that has given them an opportunity to interact with people of Indian origin, in the national language of Hindi and their own mother tongue. In addition, the pride they will experience in being ambassadors of their culture and Indian heritage expressed in the local German and English languages, will instil a sense of being a ‘world-citizen’ in the true sense, with a unique identity.

The organisation is a link which connects people of Indian origin back to their roots, and fosters a sense of ‘Indian-ness’. IAB organised a mega event, the Diwali Function in 2006. This function was filled with all tastes, sounds and dances from India. It gave the local community a glimpse of India and its culture, as well as the importance of the “Diwali / Lichterfest”.

In the last years IAB has hosted diverse and interesting events including: Friendship Dinners, Lohri, Diwali, Dusharra Celebrations, Holi Celebrations, New Year’s Party, Independence Day, various Picnics, various BBQ evenings and many other activities. Beyond the regular functions IAB organises the “International Yoga Day” every year.

On 25. August 2007 IAB planed a „Mega Event „ with 4 major Associations “60 Years of Independence of Pakistan and India”. This way they brought 4 associations together and celebrated this event with more than 1300 guests from all over Germany. This Function ended with “Total Harmony” having guests from different parts of the word.

Since the foundation IAB has organised several unforgettable events like:
